VoiceRange is a practical tool providing real-time visual feedback of the voice dynamics. It consists of an interactive environment for the real-time analysis and representation of the voice pitch and loudness, that are combined to express the vocal range profile.
VoiceRange uses the built-in microphone to capture the voice signal and represent the vocal range profile.
VoiceRange works in two modes:
• in the running session, the voice signal is continuously captured and its pitch and loudness parameters are used to plot coloured dots in a plane, most recent dots appear as yellow and then the color vanishes with time to darker green levels, till they disappear.
• in the summary session, the recent history of voice activity is represented as a map of gray dots, brighter dots meaning more persistent areas of the vocal range profile that have been targeted during the voice exercise.
VoiceRange incorporates an interactive MIDI piano keyboard that can be used to check the musical note that best matches a specific frequency region of the voice pitch.
VoiceRange was developed to serve as an easy and visual-oriented tool for voice training. The main goal is to promote self-awareness of the pitch and loudness properties of the voice, and to stimulate their deliberate control by the speaker. Hopefully, VoiceRange will help speakers to train expressive voice gestures and enjoy effective voice communication.
